NARS x Guy Bourdin Holiday 2013 Cosmetic Collection

Sep30

NARS cosmetics has a new collaboration with famed fashion photographer Guy Bourdin that will be coming out shortly on October 15, 2013.  This collection contains sixteen new, limited edition shades of eyeshadows, lipsticks and nail polish.

Francois Nars credits Boudrin as being one of the biggest influences behind his cult-favorite makeup line, even naming a bright orange blush, Exhibit A, after a book of his photographs.

Says the makeup artist about the photographer: "From the lighting and the makeup, to the abstract backgrounds and poses [in his photographs], Guy built up his own world. There is a certain decadence in Guy's work that really struck a chord with me." Nars has recreated that decadence with reformulated cosmetics - the "Cinematic Eyeshadow" and "Cinematic Lipstick" will feature highly-pigmented color payoffs and shiny dramatic finishes.

The collection will launch on October 15, 2013 in NARS boutiques and on NARS.com, and later will be available at Sephora and in specialty stores on November 1, 2013.

Nars Opens Flagship in NYC

Feb11

Dragon Girl will be there. So will Schiap, Jungle Red, and Turkish Delight. Makeup artist François Narss entire family of iconic colors will be assembled into sleek, graphic lines for the opening of his company’s first flagship store in the West Village. It’s been a long time coming: Nars looked for years before he found the right space—a prewar storefront just up the street from designer and longtime friend Marc Jacobs’ own Bleecker Street boutique—and the timing couldn’t be better. With his recent return to the runway (he’ll head up makeup at Jacobs’ show for the third season in a row on Monday evening), he’s in need of a home base.

For the task of designing the 525-square foot space, Nars tapped art director Fabien Baron—who, not-so-coincidentally, designed the company’s original black-and-white logo back in 1994. The result is a slick minimalist marriage of form and function. There are clean white walls and slim lacquer drawers stocked with the company’s full range of lush, colorful pigments (to be rung up at a glossy red sculpture-block-meets-register at the far end of the shop). To frame the molded wood fireplace, Nars handpicked a selection of his favorite photography books (Guy Bourdin’s In Between) and films (the 1963 classic Charade)—many of which, like the latter, have inspired the makeup artist’s memorable shade names.

Nars Boutique in NYC

Oct14

New York City's next beauty destination, conveniently nestled in between some of the most exclusive names in fashion.

Nars has confirmed the location and opening date of their flagship store -- which WWD originally reported was slated for November -- as 413 Bleecker Street, in the West Village next t-shirt maven James Perse's boutique and a stones throw away from Marc Jacobs. Only, we'll have to wait a bit longer for our makeup mother ship; the store will open its doors "sometime during Spring 2011."

During construction, the windows are dripping with the nail polishes from Nars' new for fall Vintage Nail Polish Collection, a re-release of five of the company's most coveted nail polishes from the 1990s.

Aside from all the your favorites, there will also be a "range of exclusive items."
