John Galliano Found Guilty

John Galliano has been found guilty of making racist and anti-Semitic comments in a Paris cafe in February, a Paris court ruled today. The British designer has been given a suspended sentence of €6,000 euros (£4,250). The maximum penalty for insulting someone based on their race or ethnicity in France is €22,500 (£19,085).

"Mr Galliano is relieved that the events of the last eight months have now been concluded," Galliano's spokesperson, Jo Milloy, told us this afternoon. "However this is not a time for celebration, and he remains apologetic for any offence that has been caused. He will continue to receive treatment for his illness and hopes in time to embrace a more positive future, based on forgiveness and understanding."

Lanvin Dolls for Charity

We are always looking for an excuse to buy a little piece of Lanvin and here's one with a feel good factor attached. The French fashion house has enlisted the help of women in Swaziland who are diagnosed as HIV positive to hand stitch and embroider four limited edition fabric dolls each dressed in its own Lanvin Petite outfit. The dolls will go on sale in November to coincide with the launch of Lanvin's first luxury childrenswear range - scaled down versions of the mainline collection for little princesses lucky enough to be bought them by their rich parents or relatives. For Lanvin obsessives, however, the hand-made dolls will be the stars of the show - they are sure to become instant heirlooms.

Proceeds from the sale of these charming dolls will go to the charity Dessine l'espoir which supports women in Africa with HIV. The aim of the project is to provide income and to enable these women to enhance their quality of life for themselves and their families. Dolls will be available from all Lanvin boutiques and stockists of the Lanvin Petite range and will cost 250 Euros each.
