To celebrate its 90th Anniversary Gucci, legendary Italian brand of luxury goods, will hold a special archival exhibition throughout 2011 that will connect Gucci's birth city, Florence, with its sister city since 1965 Kyoto through a common tradition of artisan craftsmanship, a cultural treasure shared by both Italy and Japan.
"Through this exhibit of symbolic pieces from the Gucci archives, I hope to convey a universal message: in looking towards your future, never forget your past". explains Creative Director Frida Giannini. For this project the Maison finds a partner in the Kyoto University of Art and Design with its President, Mister Hiroshi Senju, being its Curator.
This special initiative began on June 24th in Kyoto at Kinkaku-ji, a World Heritage site known as the Golden Temple. The display integrates key pieces of the Gucci archives with the tradition, history and art of Hojo, the main hall of the Golden Temple. This exhibitions aims to educate the new generations and send the massage that the artisan's expertise transcends time and borders.
