Abbey Lee Kershaw Designs Jewelry for Mania Mania

Inspired by Alejandro Jodorowsky’s 1973 movie The Holy Mountain, the “Immortals” ring has become something of a cult classic for Australian jewelry line Mania Mania. “We made the piece for our very first collection two years ago, but had no idea that it would live up to its name,” say designers Tamila Purvis and Melanie Kamsler, who’ve brought back the style by popular demand. The mythic best-seller caught the attention of model turned singer Abbey Lee Kershaw at an event in Sydney last summer. “I was completely fixated on Melanie’s fingers,” says Kershaw. “I’m a serious jewelry addict, and chunky rings are my favorite.” Using Mania Mania’s signature piece as a starting point, Kershaw worked with Kamsler and Purvis to create the “Abbey Lee” ring for fall 2011. A colorful foil to her own collection of antique flea market finds and glittering pendants, she chose amethyst for its “powerful properties.” That potent sense of mystery lends itself to the flaxen-haired beauty, known for her inimitable shape-shifting street style; one moment she’s channeling nineties grunge, and the next she’s onstage resplendent in 1970s bohemia. “You know my mother used to wear amethyst too, so there’s a sentimental value,” she says. “I’m drawn to crystals for their healing potential.” If Kershaw’s designs are anything to go by, then clearly crystals—not diamonds—are a girl’s best friend.

Abbey Lee ring, $360.
