Agent Provocateur you know as the purveyor of opulent - and opulently priced - smalls, but did you know it also has an even higher end, crème de la crème lingerie collection?
Soirée launched two years ago and was only sold in select AP boutiques, because the budget for bodyguards to protect the £15,000 Swarovski-crystal playsuit (yes, really) only stretched so far.
Starting from today, though, AP is offering the collection online, meaning that, should you get the urge to buy £195 knickers at three in the morning, you can do so just that bit more easily.
To tie in with the launch, the label commissioned an explicit short film called Les Fleurs du Mal, or The Flowers of Evil, also premiering today. Playing on the Hammer Horror movies (how apt for Halloween), our heroine is jumped on by a gang of models clothed in the Soirèe range.
"The collection is quite artistic and we kind of wanted to do something that was a bit off the wall," says Sarah Shotton, creative director of Agent Provocateur, to WWD. "We're a vintage-inspired company, and horror back in the day was a way of showing sex in film…it was a little bit of history and a bit tongue in cheek."
Soirée is popular in the Middle East and Russia, with customers dropping up to $20,000 to $30,000 in boutiques, according to Garry Hogarth, CEO of AP. "They're just looking for the most beautiful pieces, whether it's lingerie or clothing or handbags," says Hogarth.
If "most beautiful" is euphemism for "most expensive", though, Agent Provocateur shouldn't rest on its Swarovski bra-shaped laurels; US underwear giant Victoria's Secret is offering a diamond-encrusted bra for a cool $2.5 million at its annual catwalk show on November 10.
